Surrounded By Technology

Technology is a funny thing. Today many of us take it for granted and we never stopped to look around and see just what technology is up to. A walk down a busy street or through a shopping center will present with hundreds of examples of technology in use today. It is these technologies that have changed the way we live.
Consider something as simple as a price sign at a gas station. It was not too long ago that a regular part of a storeowner’s job was to manually change the price of gas on the sign. This could happen on a daily or even twice daily basis. Today these prices are updated automatically, with many location managers not even aware of price changes until they check their email and see the notification that a change has been processed. This same technology is utilized all over the world in its unique ways. Today electronic billboards are changed minute by minute to display advertising from different purchasers, the order you place at your local drives through may be routed through another state. There are hundreds of such examples
If you take a trip to a local shopping center and pick up any grocery item chances are you won’t see a price tag. What was once consider advanced technology, the bar code, is now a staple of everyday living. In fact, it is the bar code that allows your cashier to accurately process your order. The funny thing is as grocery stores have grown to rely on this technology more and more have found it inadequate. Research in new grocery technology is currently undergoing. This research seeks to incorporate an inexpensive chip or marker in product packaging, which will serve the same purpose as a bar code but will not need to be run over a scanner.
